Administration

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the beautiful spring season. As we approach the final weeks of the academic year, here are some key dates and opportunities that will support our students in their academic and extracurricular endeavors.

AP Exams: May 5-16

Advanced Placement (AP) exams are scheduled from May 5 through May 16. These exams are a pivotal opportunity for our students to showcase the knowledge and skills they have developed in their AP courses. Please visit our website to view the AP Testing Review Schedule and find detailed information about these essential prep sessions. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Padilla with any specific questions.

June Regents Review Schedule and Exams

Glen Cove High School is scheduled to administer Regents exams as mandated by the New York State Department of Education in June. We are currently in the process of selecting teachers and creating an after school Regents Review schedule to assist students in preparing for the June Regents exams.  More information will be provided on our website to ensure our students are well-prepared and confident.

Spring Festival of the Arts: May 19 and 20

Mark your calendars for our always anticipated Spring Festival of the Arts on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20, both at 6:30 PM. This event celebrates our students' incredible artistic and musical talents in various mediums. It's a highlight of our school year and a testament to the creativity within our community.

GC Knights-Let’s Continue to Keep our Eye on the Prize

Please join the high school staff in reinforcing the importance of staying on top of coursework and attendance, especially for our seniors. Seniors must remain up-to-date to ensure they earn the credits required for graduation. If you have concerns about a senior’s status, contact their guidance counselor as soon as possible. Let’s finish the year strong and keep our focus on both immediate success and long-term goals.

As always, we are excited about the upcoming events and committed to supporting our students in every possible way. Let’s encourage our students to finish strong and make the most of the remaining weeks of the school year.

Thank you for your continued support. As always, it is an absolute pleasure serving the Glen Cove community as your high school principal.

Respectfully,
Allen Hudson III

Our goal this year is to ensure that each of our GC Knights attends school regularly in order to  become the best version of themselves.

Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. That said, as children grow older, more independent, and enter high school, families play a key role in ensuring students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and life.

We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances, but we also know that when students miss too much school — regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent — which means missing 18 or more days over the course of an entire school year.

We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged! Therefore, please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.

  • Encourage them to lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick.

  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.

  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about attending school.

  • Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

Please let us know how we can best support you and your children so that they can attend school on time every day. We want your child to be successful at Glen Cove High School. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the main office at 516-801-7610.
